Guiness World Record Day 2016

Yes, you read correctly, a magic skydive!!

So, today is Guinness World Record Day #GWRday and our good friend Martin Rees (Martin Rees Magician) is attempting to do as many tricks whilst skydiving, including a couple whilst in free fall – whilst this is absolute madness, I just had to see it for myself. Martin invited me along with him to Go Skydive in Salisbury, Wiltshire to capture the days events so he may use the photos for any future publications.

Martin, from Hemel Hemsptead was attempting his Guinness World Record attempt all in aid of charity, Spread a Smile who are dedicated to improving the time spent by seriously ill children in hospital, they provide entertainers such as Martin and also our other magician friend Gary Schiffman as let’s face it, laughter is the best medicine.

Following Martin’s first record for the Most Magic Tricks in a Wind Tunnel in 3 Minutes at iFly MK in May, the Guinness World Records PR Manager got in touch about the skydive record and asked if he would postpone from the original date in July and do the record as part of Guinness World Records Day 2016 which he agreed to.

So after months of being sworn to secrecy, it is with great pleasure I can finally announce that as of today, Martin Rees is OFFICIALLY a multiple Guinness World Record Holder having set the record for the Most Magic Tricks Performed On A Skydive!

Here’s a little note from Martin himself:

“Since first coming up with the idea last year, the journey working towards achieving these records has been remarkable and has allowed me to meet so many amazing people, visit places I’d never imagine going and achieve things that have never been attempted before. Having no experience of skydiving, or performing magic in that environment, there have been so many challenges, failures and triumphs along the way. But above all, the thing I have been most touched by is the kindness and generosity of complete strangers, people who I would never have met had I not set out on the quest to achieve these records and who were willing to donate, time, resources and knowledge for the cause. In particular, I’d like to take a moment to thank;

Andy Godwin from Ifly Milton Keynes who has been an absolute rock during the training & execution of both record attempts and without whom, would have made the project even more difficult than it already was! The hours we spent practicing in the wind tunnel was beyond helpful and your ‘just do it’ attitude kept me on track and stopped me from obsessing over the small stuff!

My magic sponsors Ben Mo Fo Williams & Dominic Reyes from the Merchant of Magic, who assisted with magical preparations for the skydive record

Steve Rowe who also provided magical assistance for both records.
The team at Go Skydive – Gordon, Rachael, Laura and of course Ryan my tandem instructor on the record.

Pho2u! for taking such beautiful photos during the record attempt

And finally to Spread a Smile, the charity who all of this is in aid of. Visiting the hospitals and meeting the remarkable kids there continues to be truly humbling and makes me appreciate every moment of life.

You can see his video below and also a few of the photos from the day.

The last thing I need to say, is congratulations Martin and I look forward to working with you again very soon!
