Worried about the rain?

You needn’t be worried about having rain on your wedding day – it’s meant to be lucky any way – so don’t let rain put you off.

Rain on your wedding day is good luck for so many reasons!

Rain represents many things in different cultures – most of which include fertility, cleansing, unity, renewal, and tears.

Fertility: Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that you will have children. This belief came about since rain ultimately waters the ground and lends to fertility, allowing plants to grow and vegetate.

Cleansing: Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies the cleansing of tough times or sadness in your past.

Unity:  Did you know that a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie? When you “tie the knot” on a rainy day, your marriage is supposedly just as hard to unravel! We can thank Hindu traditions for this belief.

Renewal: Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies washing away of bad memories or occurrences and, in effect, gives you a completely new, fresh chapter in your life.

Tears: Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it symbolises the last tears that the bride will shed for the rest of her life.

The only photo that it may potentially make most difficult is a large group shot, if there isn’t space in your venue then perhaps have an alternative to a large group shot and just stick to smaller groups and have them appear in your wedding album on one double spread page instead.

Wet wet wet!

I always bring flash guns with me so lighting shouldn’t be a problem for the group shots.

Please try and enjoy the rain with me, you need not get wet (I will as it’s hard to hold an umbrella and take photos – don’t worry – my cameras are all weather sealed!) – I can’t guarantee this but it will make stunning and epic shots, especially if it really hammers it down! Embrace the rain by packing some wellies, I always carry a white umbrella as standard, but feel free to pack something more suitable for your wedding.

Hey, everyone wants sunshine for their wedding day, and I hope you get the weather you wish for, but just don’t shy away from having photos in the rain on your wedding day – see some of the shots below and let me know what you think – fancy rain on your wedding day now?

By the way, thank you to all of the lovely couples who trusted me to go in the rain!
