We were recently booked to cover the Smithfield Awards which is the high profile annual showcase, one of the meat industry’s most challenging national product evaluation events, is contested by members of the Q Guild, an industry-leading organisation that comprises many of the UK’s top butchers.
I found out that Monica Galetti, one of the best-known female chefs in London, will present the 2015 Butchers Q Guild Smithfield Awards. This was an exciting opportunity for us, especially as I love food and Masterchef: The Professionals, the TV show on BBC2 which features Monica as one of the critiques.
I arrived in the morning to the fabulous Ironmongers Hall in Central London and immediately set up to begin capturing the event from people arriving and meeting other attendees to the awards ceremony.
The hall itself had been beautifully set out ready for lunch and as Monica arrived, food from the individual butchers had been prepared and cooked ready for the judging to commence. Monica enjoyed every dish and gave her praise for all dishes presented.
I captured all of the tasting and also Monica’s inspirational speech before the awards ceremony started. Monica presented all of the trophies to the winners and also posed for a photo with anyone who wanted one with her. I must admit, she is such a lovely lady and announced that she shall be opening her very own restaurant in London next year – I am very excited to visit!
